Q.: Where’s a great place to hold my wedding? How do I reserve a city park for my event?

A: Click here for the answer!

Charleston Wedding Locations

There are several beautiful city parks that you may decide to use for your wedding. You can choose between the following locations:

  • White Point Gardens (Has a gazebo)
  • Waterfront Park (Overlooking the Cooper River)
  • Hampton Park (Has a gazebo)
  • Washington Park (Very quaint, lots of Charleston charm)
  • Angel Oak Park (Boasts the oldest living tree east of the Mississippi)
  • Or, as a wonderful alternative, consider having your wedding on the beach! Kiawah Island, Folly Beach or Isle of Palms are ideal for beach weddings. A beach wedding will require a permit from the island, rather than from the City of Charleston

To reserve a park for your wedding, or any other event, you must

  • Contact the City of Charleston Recreation Department at 843-724-7327.
  • Verify the date is available.
  • They will fax or mail an application for the event to be held at the park.
  • For more information, contact Bernadette Brown or Barbara Taylor

Allow a few weeks for this process. Fees for the permit are based on the complexity of the event. Permits are subject to approval. By city ordinance, weddings held at the Waterfront Park or at White Point Gardens are limited to 25 people, in total, at the event. This includes the bride and groom.

Honeymoons and Romantic Escapes

There are some beautiful hotels, guest houses and apartments to rent in Charleston that will provide you with the comfort and luxury you need while on your honeymoon; but, for that little extra, book at least part of your stay at Kiawah Island. It is just 30 minutes outside of downtown Charleston, and you can book one of a range of cottages or apartments that are beautifully styled in comfort and elegance. Many have sea views and are close to the beach to keep your journey short and limit the time you spend travelling on your relaxing honeymoon. Another reason to spend time on the island is the super range of facilities that you have access to if you decide that the beach is not for you every day. You can choose from golf, tennis, hiking, boating, and even shopping, either together or separately and then meeting up at one of the islands restaurants to catch up and share your experiences.

Activities in Charleston
Charleston is steeped in history and no visit would be complete without taking in some of the sights and getting to know the history of the place. Middleton Place is a must visit attraction; it is the home of the oldest landscaped garden in America and the house museum has been recording the history of the Middleton family since 1755. The grounds include working stables and offer the opportunity to take part in treks through some amazing surrounding. There are several beautiful gardens to visit and opportunities to take part in the bus and walking tours to help you see as much of Charleston as possible.

Dining in Charleston
The last thing you want to do on your honeymoon is to cook, and taking your honeymoon in Charleston means even if you stay in a self catering apartment, there is no need to lift a single pan or open any cans. 82 Queen is tucked away in the French quarter of the city and offers fresh local cuisine in stunning surroundings. You could also combine dinner with amazing historic views and dine at the Middleton Place Restaurant The restaurant uses local organic produce and provides elegant surroundings that are well suited to a couple on their honeymoon.

If you have visited Charleston before and have already fallen in love with the city then why not book your entire wedding there and employ some amazing people to take care of all of the details for you while you enjoy the surroundings. If you have your wedding in Charleston you can choose to have your day in a park or on the beach; don’t forget to check the number of guests you are allowed and whether you need a permit, especially in the parks.

Don’t Forget
When all the planning is over, and the wedding has gone superbly well, don’t forget to sit back and relax. Enjoy your honeymoon and your first time alone together as a married couple. By choosing Charleston as your honeymoon location you can decide whether to spend your time relaxing on the beach or soaking up the local atmosphere; whatever you choose to do, the area provides so many beautiful sites and activities, you will not regret booking Charleston as your honeymoon destination.

“I did lots of research to find the perfect condo for our first trip to Kiawah. I found it. The owners keep it very clean and very well supplied. My husband and I were there for almost 4 weeks so I did lots of meal preparation and everything that I needed was there. Linens were all top quality and the furniture was comfortable. Top floor also makes it quiet. The pictures and descriptions were accurate. We would love to return and highly recommend this condo. Kiawah is a beautiful island and we loved exploring on the bike trails.”

“The Breeze at Seascape was quite possibly the most beautiful villa we have ever stayed in; the decor, the furniture, the fabulously appointed kitchen, the views and that reading nook, well, we didn’t want to leave after our week long stay. Anything you could possibly need and then some is at the Breeze, not to mention stunning views of the ocean, a lovely island with lots to explore and a short ride to Charleston. The Kiawah island Getaway team was responsive to all of our inquiries and needs and they do a fabulous job. We highly recommend the Breeze for a relaxing family getaway.”

“Kiawah Island Gem!”

“Excellent location on beautiful Kiawah Island. Wonderfully decorated, ultra clean, with high quality materials throughout. Our experience matched the VRBO property description and photos perfectly! As two old college friends escaping the daily grind for a long Mom’s weekend away, this property was perfect with plenty of room to spread out. Two generously sized bedrooms with luxury linens, comfortable bathrooms and every detail considered. When the rain kept us indoors, we found the condo to be comfortable and filled with resources to stay warm & cozy. We made ample use of the DVD player & movies, enjoyed the Keurig machine so we could personalize our hot beverage preferences, and even had cozy throws to keep us warm as we relaxed with a good book. The views and proximity to the beach were perfect! We found the condo location very convenient with quick access off the island when we wanted to explore beyond Kiawah. Also helpful for us was the short drive to the Freshfields Village shopping area which was great for any grocery needs, restaurant choices, and shopping. Overall I would highly recommend this location, the Treetops unit, and would feel totally comfortable renting any property listed by Jeanette & Shawn!”

“We arrived to find the condominium prepared for our arrival. The views from the floor to ceiling living room windows was incredible. From it we watched a pod of dolphins frolicking and feeding near the shrimpers that frequented the horizon. The furnishings were excellent and it was great to have bath sheets and good linens instead of the standard fair offered at the resort. The Shipwatch Villas are located such that this property had a view to the east, up the beach. Access to the beach was easy and with our visit being in November we had the beach nearly to ourselves, despite the good weather. We recommend this property to any couple looking for a romantic setting and privacy. The property was clean and well maintained. Shawn and Jeanette provided us with recommendations for dinner, shopping and even recipes for low country cooking. When in Kiawah again, we will definitely try to book this specific property!”
